Volunteer Pipeline: Pathway to Engagement
Step 1: Volunteer
Attend orientation, sign liability agreement, participate in events, adhere to Code of Conduct
Step 2: Committee Membership
Volunteer at two+ events, interview with committee leadership, attend regular meetings
Step 3: Board Membership
Serve as volunteer and committee member, complete application and interview, commit to governance responsibilities
This structured pathway allows community members to progressively increase their involvement and leadership within The Source LGBT+ Center. Each step builds upon the previous one, ensuring volunteers gain the necessary experience and demonstrate commitment before advancing to higher levels of responsibility. By participating actively at each stage, volunteers develop valuable skills, deepen their connection to the community, and contribute meaningfully to the Center's mission and impact.
Inclusivity and Non-Discrimination Policies
Respect for All
Treat all individuals with respect, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, religion, or background. Use inclusive language and affirm individuals' identities and pronouns.
Safe Environment
Promote safety by avoiding discrimination, harassment, or any form of exclusion. Be mindful of personal boundaries and respect physical and emotional safety of others.
Accountability
Report any incidents of discrimination or harassment to a staff member immediately. Follow the reporting procedures to ensure all concerns are properly addressed.

As a volunteer, you serve as an ambassador for The Source LGBT+ Center. Your conduct and communication directly impact our reputation and effectiveness in the community. Following these best practices ensures positive and professional representation.
Reporting Concerns or Incidents
Immediate Response
If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services right away. Ensure the safety of all individuals present.
Report to Staff
Notify the Volunteer Coordinator or an on-duty staff member about the incident or concern as soon as possible.
Submit Written Report
If necessary, complete an Incident Report Form, which can be obtained from staff or online. Include all relevant details.
Confidential Follow-Up
Staff will review reports and take appropriate action. Reports are handled with confidentiality, and retaliation against reporters is prohibited.
Alcohol Service Policy Overview
Purpose
Ensure responsible alcohol service, comply with California state laws, and create a safe, inclusive environment for all guests and volunteers at events including Drag Queen Bingo, Rainbow Run, Pride Visalia, and the Annual Gala.
Age & Training Requirements
All bar workers must be at least 21 years old with valid ID. Volunteers must attend orientation, complete a pre-shift briefing, and review and sign the policy acknowledgment form.
Conduct Standards
No alcohol consumption during shifts. Professional conduct is required. ID must be checked for guests appearing under 30. Service must be refused to visibly intoxicated individuals.
Alcohol Service Procedures
Check-In
Sign in with the volunteer coordinator. Review bar setup, alcohol license information, and service limits. Receive wristbands or stamps for identifying over-21 guests (if applicable).
During Shift
Maintain cleanliness of the bar area. Monitor guest behavior. Serve no more than 1 drink per person at a time. Avoid over-pouring. Stay hydrated and take breaks if needed (with staff permission).
End of Shift
Clean and restock the bar area. Return materials (bar tools, aprons, etc.). Check out with a staff lead or volunteer coordinator. Report any incidents that occurred during your shift.
